This page explains how LearnWeave handles your data, based on what the public source code does today. It is not a legal guarantee. If the code and this page ever disagree, the code is what actually runs, and it is open to inspection.

The LearnWeave desktop app

Stored on your computer

• Captured sources, knowledge entries, evidence, generated questions, your answers, review state and AI job records are stored in a local SQLite database on your computer. The app can also make local backups and exports.
• Credentials you enter in Settings, such as AI provider API keys and the Zhihu Open Platform secret, are stored in Windows Credential Manager.
• Local diagnostic logs are designed to leave out selected text, prompts and API keys.

Sent to services you configure

• AI providers. When you run an AI action (translate, explain, save a passage, generate questions, judge an answer, plan reviews and similar), the relevant text is sent straight from your computer to the provider and endpoint you set up. That text can include the passage you selected, your stored knowledge and evidence, and your answers. Supported protocols are OpenAI-compatible Chat Completions, the OpenAI Responses API, the Anthropic Messages API and the Google Gemini API. That provider's own privacy terms apply. LearnWeave does not bundle or supply an API key.
• Zhihu. If you use the built-in Zhihu search, your search queries are sent to Zhihu's Open Platform API using your own access secret. Answers you open are loaded from Zhihu.
• Optional browser helper. The browser extension only talks to the desktop app on your own computer (127.0.0.1). It passes along Zhihu page details for your selection and does not call AI models itself.

What we did not find

The current source code contains no analytics, telemetry or crash-reporting service, and no LearnWeave Labs server that receives your content. We do not run an account system for the app.

This website

This is a static website. It does not set cookies or use analytics, and it has no forms. Whoever hosts it may keep standard server logs, such as IP address and requested page. If you email us, we receive whatever you choose to send.

Uncertainties and limits

• This summary comes from a review of the public repository, not a formal audit. Future versions may change what the app does.
• We cannot control how third-party AI providers or Zhihu store, log or use the data you send them.
• Custom providers and endpoints you configure can be any server. Data goes wherever you point it.
• Local data is only as protected as your Windows account and device.
